The Behavioral Health Technician (Mental Health Technician (MHT)) is responsible for establishing and maintaining a therapeutic environment with clients and facilitates the maintenance of a therapeutic environment by providing supportive services to individuals with mental health challenges in a 24-hour clinic and residential setting. Mental Health Technicians are responsible for documenting services provided in the resident’s electronic health record and facility log, providing crisis intervention services as needed, transport of residents and maintaining the upkeep and operations of facilities. Must have a valid drivers license.
Educational Requirements
- BA in Psychology or related field preferred but not required. Graduate students are encouraged to apply.
- Must have at least 1 year of direct Mental Health experience
Job Responsibilities/Duties
- Monitors client’s whereabouts at all times and documents specific targeted behaviors during activities. Provides a daily written report on rounds.
- Facilitates and ensures client attendance at activities.
- Observes, reports and documents client issues / complaints.
- May be responsible for admitting, transferring and discharging specific clients as assigned.
- Orients new clients to the facilities.
- Provides direct client care as assigned by licensed staff.
- On occasion supervises urine analysis testing for medication levels.
- Provides an ongoing safe environment for staff and clients.
- Provides supervision of self-administration medication program.
- Transport residents to and from appointments, meetings, facilities, outings, and other pre-authorized destinations when applicable (Utilizes company transportation).
- Instructs and confirms the facility’s rules and regulations to new admissions (Orientates clients).
- Be familiar with community resources.
- Seeks corrective feedback and has the ability to evaluate suggestions objectively.
- Build and maintain positive and professional relationships with residents and staff.
- Attends administrative meetings.
- Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changes in work environment.
- Assist with upkeep of facility.
- Completes and forwards by email any Single Incident Reports and any other safety/risk issues immediately to Mental Health Technician Manager.
- Participate in shift exchange and complete shift report before departure.
