As a Geri Psych Nurse at CHI St Vincent, you'll oversee a department of frontline nurses caring for patients. Your previous experience in acute care adds tremendous value to our nursing team.

Mental Health nursing offers a completely different experience than caring for patients with only physical health-related problems. It’s easy to forget that, in some cases, a patient’s decline in physical health can negatively impact their mental health as well, but that doesn’t mean their treatment is any less complex. Psych nursing offers skilled nurses the opportunity to care for vulnerable patients and themselves through self-reflection, and introspection. In essence, these nurses and patients find strength in each other.Patients on this unit are dealing with difficult diagnoses. Our ideal nursing candidate will have the proven ability to exercise patience, flexibility, and careful listening when their efforts are often tested. This nurse will strive to calm patients when they become agitated, strengthen patients coping skills, and ensure their safety.
Expectations:
- Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment while delivering quality patient care
- Collect, read, and interpret assigned patient’s health history
- Create and implement care plans in collaboration with other care team members
- Administer medications to patients and educate caregivers when necessary
Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma in Nursing from accredited nursing program or Associates Degree in Nursing required
- Active Registered Nurse Licensure in Arkansas or eNLC licensure with multistate privileges in good standing with the Arkansas Board of Nursing. License must be unencumbered.
- 6 months of nursing experience required (New graduates would need to complete a residency program before consideration for this unit)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Previous nursing experience in geri psych or acute care medical surgical
