The Behavioral Health Specialist delivers comprehensive behavioral health services, including assessments, individualized treatment plans, and therapy (individual, group, family). This role manages a diverse caseload, ensures timely documentation and administrative tasks related to client care, program support, and compliance with regulatory standards. This position contributes to program development and quality improvement initiatives while maintaining professional relationships with colleagues and community partners.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Clinical Duties:
o Conduct thorough biopsychosocial assessments to gain a deep understanding of clients' mental health, needs, strengths, and treatment goals, informing effective intervention strategies
o Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans/therapy sessions in collaboration with clients to promote their well-being and recovery
o Deliver a range of therapeutic services, including individual, group, and family therapy, applying evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, and EMDR to address diverse clinical needs.
o Continuously monitor client progress through regular assessment and feedback, dynamically adapting treatment plans to ensure optimal effectiveness and responsiveness to evolving needs.
o Ensure meticulous and timely completion of confidential clinical documentation, adhering to all ethical and legal standards
o Effectively manage a diverse caseload of clients presenting with a wide range of mental health diagnoses and varying levels of clinical complexity, demonstrating strong clinical judgment and organizational skills
o Provide timely and effective crisis intervention services, utilizing de-escalation techniques and developing comprehensive safety plans to ensure client safety and well-being
o Collaborate effectively with psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless integration of care, including medication management, to provide holistic and comprehensive client support
Administrative Duties:
o Provide professional and timely responses to client inquiries received via phone, email, and the patient portal, ensuring clear communication and excellent client service
o Establish and maintain comprehensive and organized client files, adhering strictly to HIPAA regulations and organizational policies to ensure confidentiality and data integrity
o Utilize data management systems to monitor client progress and generate comprehensive reports on outcome measures for program evaluation initiatives
o Prepare and submit all necessary agency, insurance, and grant-related documentation accurately and within established deadlines
o Attend and engage in staff meetings and administrative planning, offering input and supporting the development and implementation of organizational strategies
o Ensure efficient service delivery while adhering to productivity expectations, maintaining precise records of billable hours for accurate billing and reporting
o Collaborate with the clinical team to manage assessment workloads, potentially including scheduling, data entry, or preliminary information gathering
Professional Collaboration:
o Actively participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, contributing valuable clinical insights and collaborating on comprehensive care plans
o Proactively coordinate client care with external healthcare providers, community resources, and support services to ensure seamless transitions and comprehensive support networks
o Serve as a clinical resource for colleagues, providing guidance on complex cases, sharing expertise and supporting effective treatment strategies
o Actively participate in individual and/or group clinical supervision to enhance professional development and engage in peer consultation to exchange knowledge and best practices
o Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with referral sources and community partners to facilitate appropriate referrals and enhance access to services for clients
Program Development:
o Collaborate in the development and enhancement of therapeutic programs, offering clinical expertise and insights to ensure program effectiveness and relevance
o Support program evaluation efforts by providing data, feedback, and participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and client outcomes
o Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based practices and emerging treatment approaches through ongoing professional development and literature review
o Identify existing service gaps within the organization and the community, and proactively recommend potential solutions to enhance the continuum of care
Policy and Compliance:
o Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant regulations and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations
o Maintain accurate and complete documentation and record keeping practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies
o Assist audit preparations and responses, ensuring timely and accurate submission of required documentation
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Education: Master's degree in Clinical Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related mental health field
Current state licensure as a clinical mental health professional (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LMHC, or equivalent)
Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of behavioral health facility safety requirements. Proven proficiency in conducting comprehensive assessments, developing accurate diagnoses, and creating effective treatment plans. Demonstrated proficiency in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Solid knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and its application in clinical practice. Familiarity with local community resources and social service systems.
Skills: Excellent communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills. Advanced skills in clinical documentation and utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems. Proficiency in using computer systems and Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a healthcare administration setting, demonstrating an understanding of [mention specific areas like billing, scheduling, compliance, etc. if relevant to the role
Two (2) or more years of post-licensure clinical experience providing direct mental health services to individuals and/or groups
Completion of specialized training in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), with demonstrated application of TIC principles in clinical practice.
Experience in providing crisis intervention services, including assessment, de-escalation, and safety planning.
Active certification or advanced training in one or more evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), 1 or other relevant modalities
Compensation & Benefits:
$68,000 - $72,000 annually, contract to hire position. Hybrid work schedule (3 days a week in office)
