The Position
Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for multiple Mental Health Technician IV positions. The Mental Health Technician IV supplements the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing and overseeing the provision of direct patient care at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) located in Las Vegas, NV. DWTC is a Level 6, 44-bed child and adolescent psychiatric hospital serving severely emotionally disturbed youth ages 6-17. DWTC is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and licensed by the Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance. The MHT IV facilitates on-the-job instruction to newly hired MHT's of DWTC and in-service training to existing MHT staff. The incumbent will be required to make decisions and judgments applicable to the provision of direct care. Such decisions may include determining the off-unit activities in which the patient may participate and providing summations of patient care to the attending physicians. The MHT IV participates in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and make recommendations on patients' mental health care. The MHT IV may assist in the transport of patients as it relates to therapeutic activities of the hospital. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of experience, three of which were paraprofessional experience in a hospital, institutional, or residential, clinic, or community setting providing care, treatment, training and supervision for individuals with mental illness or emotional disturbances. In addition, applicants must have attained and maintained valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279; OR one year of experience as a Mental Health Technician III or Developmental Support Technician III in Nevada State service and valid mental health certification pursuant to NRS 433.279.
Special Notes
CPR certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
First aid certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
In accordance with NAC 284.437, this series may be used to underfill Mental Health Professional positions when recruitment efforts for clinical positions in rural communities have been unsuccessful.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
