Job Description
Job Summary
Provides support to the nursing staff and patient care through the direction and guidance of licensed staff and leaders. Responsible for upholding Community Cares standards. Responsible for ensuring patient safety. The Mental Health Technician functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team to assess the functional abilities, impairments, and needs of each patient and address these individually.
Essential Functions
- Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, physicians, leaders, and administration.
- Adapts to change in a positive, professional manner.
- Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command.
- Cooperates well with peers and supports group decisions.
- Communicates appropriate information to lead staff member, supervisor or director in a timely manner.
- Maintains a clear, neat and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Clearly, consistently and legibly documents all aspects of routine charting.
- Consistently uses skilled communication which demonstrates congruence between words and actions and holds others accountable for doing the same.
- Demonstrates population appropriate competencies for all relevant patient populations.
- Ensures supplies and equipment for patient care are readily available and organized in an efficient manner.
- Correctly identifies and uses appropriately personal protective equipment.
- Effectively role models professional behavior.
- Responds to patient and family requests promptly.
- Accurately monitors and records patient information, test results and stats.
- Provides care to assigned patients including the activities of daily living, non-medication pain management and other interventions.
- Accurately follows patient care policies, practices and protocols i.e. sterile technique and skin care protocol.
- Assists with personal hygiene and elimination needs.
- Provides patient with clean linen and towels at the beginning of shift and changes both as needed.
- Answers call system promptly and intervenes appropriately.
- Cleans equipment as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or GED required
- Less than 2 years experience as a patient care assistant in a mental health hospital setting preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- BCLS - Basic Life Support required
- SAMA required
- Patient Care Technician preferred
