Psychiatric Occupational Therapist Job Description:

Provides direct patient care, individual assessment/treatment, and group treatments. Participates in program planning in conjunction with the nurse manager; assesses current needs of unit and patient population. Then, based on findings, develops program changes and/or enhancements. Serves as consultant and resource to Psychiatry staff, and to Occupational Therapy staff from other subspecialties in understanding and managing patients with psychiatric issues. Coordinates and implements student fieldwork training in psychiatric occupational therapy. Also provides supervision to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant as needed. Communicates effectively with patients, supervisor, supervisees, and members of the treatment team. Manages supplies and equipment according to established procedures. Manages budget and records as assigned. Documents patient care accurately and in a timely way in the medical record and as needed to facilitate continued care or billing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy.

2. Current registration by A.O.T.A. and current Massachusetts licensure.

3. Good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and other healthcare providers.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Normal hospital and clinic environment.

2. Standing and walking, stooping and bending 60% or more of the time.

3. Grasping, fine hand manipulation, and repetitive hand movements more than 60% of the time for outpatient treatment.

Occasional exposure to blood/body fluids and infectious diseases.
