***The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $15,000.00 to newly hired Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurses 1. The incentive bonus will be paid in two equal installments, minus mandatory deductions. The first installment will be paid 90 calendar days after the first day of employment, and upon demonstrating an overall mid-acceptable performance rating. The second and final installment will be paid upon the employee's successful completion of the probationary period. Payments will be due within sixty (60) calendar days of such request. To receive an incentive, employees are expected to agree to a three-year term of employment with the Department of Corrections.***
The Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for multiple (Psych) Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse 1 positions primarily located at the Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) in Anchorage, Alaska.

What you will be doing:Under the supervision of the Chief Mental Health Officer, this position will:
- Care for the psychiatric needs of mentally ill offenders located across the state in-person and via telehealth for rural locations.
- Actively participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team including other psychiatric medication providers, psychiatric nurses, mental health clinicians and medical staff.
- Identify, assess, and respond appropriately to those with mental health disorders, symptoms associated with drug and alcohol use, and suicidal inmates.
- Prescribe Schedule II-V drugs as appropriate in accordance with departmental standards, State licensing requirements and prescriptive authority by the Alaska Board of Nursing or the Alaska Medical Board.
- Work as part of the mental health team, including on-call coverage requirements as part of a rotation with the other psychiatric treatment providers.

The work environment you can expect:This position is primarily located at the Anchorage Correctional Complex, a secure facility for incarcerated offenders, and Anchorage Central Office in downtown Anchorage to provide services to rural locations via telehealth. This position will work closely with a team of correctional officers, mental health clinicians, medical staff, and other psychiatric treatment providers.

Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
Special Note:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
Some positions require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Some positions require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees may be required to be screened annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Shift assignments and on-call availability may be required.
Some positions require application for and renewal of a DEA Registration Number with various designation(s) from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration allowing them to write prescriptions for a variety of controlled substances as a government health care provider. These positions will additionally register with the Alaska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.
In addition to maintaining Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensing requirements, some positions may require maintenance of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Basic Life Support, registration with a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, National Provider Identifier number, and others as appropriate.

PREA NOTIFICATION

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
