Job Title: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner


Location: CP Rochester - Rochester, NY



Hourly Rate: $52.88 - $67.30 commensurate with experience


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is 12-month Part-Time 20.0-29.5 hours per week position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during business hours (8:00am-4:30pm). Evening work may be required on rare occasions as job duties demand.


Required Education and Experience:



  1. Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing with focus on Psychiatric nursing

  2. Must have appropriate NYS Professional Certification and Licensure.

  3. Ability to work with both adult and youth/child populations

  4. Experience in providing service to individuals with disabilities preferred.

  5. 3+ years of experience as a psychiatric provider

  6. Must be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

  7. An unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of New York

  8. Must have a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in New York

  9. Registration with the state Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) in New York

  10. No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in federal health care programs (e.g. Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP)

  11. Maintain credentials and licensure with all major insurance companies and licensing boards with the assistance of credentialing staff.

  12. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize the daily operations of the department or program.

  13. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

  14. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in planning, implementing and evaluating work with individuals, customers, and staff.

  15. Demonstrated tolerance for stressful interactions and situations.

  16. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and general computer skills.

  17. Knowledge and proficiency in use of Electronic Health Record System

Summary/Objective: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMNNP) will provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services to adult and youth clients with behavioral health issues. The PMNNP will ensure all Psychiatric services provided by the agency are focused on accomplishing the CP Rochester Mission, Vision and Values and that the services meet the goals of the department and the agencies. Ensures the function of the all programs impacted by Psychiatry are fulfilled and meets the needs of individuals served within clinic programs


Essential Functions:



  1. Imparts agency philosophy to clients, families, program staff and community resources

  2. Provide clinical psychiatric services, including evaluation and management services; counseling and/or coordination of care, prescription management, on-call services and all applicable documentation requirements to ensure adequate and quality services to identified individuals.

  3. Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.

  4. Ensures compliance with regulatory agency such as NYDOH and OMH

  5. Provides oversight and coordination of all patient schedules to ensure compliance with CMS and treatment frequency requirements.

  6. After-hours coverage may be needed, as agreed upon with after-hours coverage shared on a weekly basis among prescribers.

  7. Non (Direct) Mandatory Clinical Activities: during the day-to-day operations of the clinic, and given the specific specialized population involved, there are often daily and periodic mandatory, clinically required activities which must be performed that are not reimbursable through public or private insurances. Nonetheless, these need to be addressed to maintain a holistic, comprehensive, clinically grounded, and responsive treatment/patient care. These may include:



      • Acute question, concern and/or extended discussion (generally phone or email) with staff/family/guardian about patient, with required response within 1 business day or less.

      • Additional time for report organization, dictation, laboratory studies review, tardive dyskinesia screen (as indicated), prescription processing, review of any new medication (risks, indications, and side effects), ordering laboratory studies, editing (progress notes).

      • Review/preparation of clinical forms, such as insurance request, government request, with 1 business day within 1 business day or less.

      • Review/response of acute medical and/or laboratory responses, within 1 business day or less.

      • Review/response to acute patient related issues, needing written and/or clinical activity, within I business day within 1 business day or less.

      • Review/response to acute prescription programs (i.e., Clozaril) or to medication error/misuse, within 1 business day or less.

      • Review/signing of orders and other required documents, within I business day or less. Coverage (during clinic hours as needed) for prescriber vacations, illness, and vacancies, within 1 business day or less.

      • Acute appointment with patient (and associated care providers, as indicated) to address crises.

      • Additional time for report organization, dictation, editing (intake), with 90 min scheduled/blocked for intakes.

      • Administrative duties, such as supervision (non-routine), performance reviews.

      • Training, staff meetings and/or direct supervision.

      • Coverage and liaison with DDSO, OMH, psychiatric emergency services and/or inpatient services, within 1 business day or less.

      • Review/signing of treatment plans.

      • Psychiatric fellow/nurse practitioner training.

      • RN duties & tasks (in absence of RN).

      • Transition to EMR training and/or EMR/computer problems.

      • Additional time for above due to staff/non-prescriber lack of completion, whereas the prescriber is functioning in another role to compensate.





  8. Communicates effectively with staff, service providers, individuals, caregivers, family members, and the community.

  9. Demonstrates professional demeanor and serves as a role model for other staff and consumers.

  10. Achieves program or department goals by performing other responsibilities as required

  11. Develop and maintain an excellent working relationship between CP Rochester departments as well as any other partnering agencies.

  12. Ensures that all aspects of the quality assurance plan are carried out.

  13. Participates in conferences, workshops and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.

  14. Adheres to agency's policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
