OPPORTUNITY
Based at our Ánimo Venice school site, the School Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing and coordinating individual, group and family therapy to students. The School Mental Health Therapist will need to forge and maintain strong relationships with Green Dot team members, students and families, and partner agencies. The goal is to lessen barriers to learning in support of our mission to prepare all students for college, leadership, and life. This is a 5-year grant funded (ending December 31, 2027), 210-day position, requiring work both during and after school hours.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
> Provide mental health consultation and collaborate with teachers and school staff in order to increase academic engaged time and plan/implement positive behavior support
> Provide individual, group and family treatment targeting students who are at risk of school failure due to social, behavioral, and emotional problems utilizing evidence based and/or evidence informed practices and complete clinical documentation requirements through the School Mental Health approved platform
> Plan, coordinate, and participate in multi-disciplinary teams including: Coordination of Services (COST), Student Success Teams (SST), and other activities
> Promote mental health & well-being of our students through the implementation of evidence/research-based practices, to address symptoms of trauma, depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns
> Plan and lead staff development that addresses barriers to learning including trauma informed practice and trauma specific services, suicide prevention/intervention/post-vention, threat assessment, crisis response, and Psychological First Aid
> Participate in the School Site Crisis Team and Threat Assessment Team. Support recovery programs for students and staff in the event of a natural disaster or act of violence/terrorism
> Comprehensive knowledge of policies and bulletins related to suicide prevention/intervention/post-vention, crisis intervention and response, threat assessment, and other relevant documents
> Provide student and parent psychoeducation on topics that include mental health, trauma awareness, social skills, conflict mediation, grief, drug prevention, and other social emotional issues that impact learning. Promote parent engagement in the educational process
> Provide community referrals, linkages and collaboration with school sites and community resources to address student and family needs
> Attend IEP and Interdepartmental meetings for students receiving counseling services
>Gather and analyze mental health data for students and monitor student progress.
>Support the collection of metrics such as client satisfaction survey, referrals, enrollment, parent contact, outcome measures for depression and trauma symptoms, and crisis support on the School Mental Health Services approved platform
>Assist in School Mental Health Services team projects as needed
>Ensure mental health support of specialized subgroups, such as (Emerging Bilinguals, African American Achievement, Homeless/Foster, Chronic Absenteeism, Students with Individualized Education Plans, LGBTQ+)
>Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
As an ideal candidate, you
> have a master’s in Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy or related field
> Current registration with CA Board of Behavioral Sciences
> have successful supervisory and/or therapy experience in a school-based setting
> have a current CA Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in School Social Work or School Counseling (preferred but not required)
> are bilingual – Spanish fluency in both written and oral language (preferred but not required)
> have a passion for supporting students, families and schools
> are able to take initiative and follow through on projects and programs
> are able to both work independently and collaborate at a high level of professionalism
> are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve
> will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer

COMPENSATION
The starting salary for this role is $64,480 for a 210 day work year, based on education and experience.
