The Social Worker for the Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) and Medication for Alcohol Use Disorder (MAUD) in Jails Program is responsible for providing case management and referral services to incarcerated individuals engaged in treatment for substance use disorders. The Social Worker will collaborate with medical and correctional staff to ensure the continuity of care and support rehabilitation efforts, promoting successful re-entry into the community.
Examples of Work Performed:
Case Management and Support Services:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of client needs, history, and treatment goals.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized service plans.
Coordinate with medical staff to support clients receiving MOUD/MAUD therapies.
Referral and Advocacy:
Connect clients with appropriate community resources for continued treatment, housing, employment assistance, and other recovery supports upon release.
Serve as an advocate for client needs, ensuring referrals are made to culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Work closely with jail staff, probation officers, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to develop a seamless transition plan for clients.
Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and provide progress updates and insights into client needs.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of case activities, assessments, and referrals.
Provide reports on client progress and program outcomes for internal and external reporting.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In-depth understanding of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment principles, particularly regarding medication-assisted treatment options such as MOUD and MAUD.
Case Management Principles: Knowledge of case management practices, including assessment, service planning, referrals, and follow-up processes.
Community Resources: Familiarity with available community resources for housing, employment, and ongoing substance use recovery to support re-entry into society.
Cultural Competency: Awareness of and sensitivity to cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic differences, particularly those of Indigenous populations, to support personalized care.
Correctional Systems: Understanding of correctional facility procedures and protocols to ensure effective case management within the jail setting.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, correctional staff, and external service providers.
Crisis Intervention Skills: Ability to de-escalate high-stress situations, provide support during crisis moments, and manage emotionally challenging cases.
Organizational Skills: Proficiency in managing caseloads, tracking multiple clients' progress, and maintaining thorough documentation.
Advocacy Skills: Skill in advocating for clients access to resources and services, particularly those who may face barriers upon re-entry.
Analytical and Assessment Skills: Strong ability to assess client needs accurately, formulate appropriate plans, and modify approaches based on evolving needs.
Empathy and Compassion: Demonstrates patience, empathy, and a nonjudgmental approach in supporting clients with substance use disorders.
Adaptability: Ability to adjust approaches and problem-solve in response to changing conditions in
correctional environments or client needs.
Confidentiality: Maintains strict confidentiality of client information in alignment with legal and ethical
standards.
Team Collaboration: Effectively works within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring coordination and communication with jail staff and community partners.
Resilience and Stress Management: Able to manage stress and remain resilient in a demanding work environment, handling emotionally challenging cases with professionalism.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field (Master's preferred).
Minimum of 2 years in case management or social work in substance use treatment or correctional settings.
Ability to maintain confidentially. (Required)
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; familiarity with MOUD/MAUD; proficiency in working within jail or institutional settings.
Must pass a pre-employment background check.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Preferred Requirements:
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
