As an RN in a Behavioral Health setting, your responsibilities would include assessing patients’ mental and emotional state, administering medications to manage psychiatric conditions, providing therapeutic support, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement treatment plans. Behavioral health nurses also assist with crisis intervention, provide education and counseling to patients and their families, and ensure patient safety, especially in environments where patients may be at risk of harming themselves or others.
